This year we’re thrilled to celebrate Women in Construction Week by showcasing the talented women who make up our organization and industry. Meet Heidi Sedlacek, Communications Manager at Bituminous Roadways, Inc.!

Years in the industry?

8

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on?

My job is unique in that I am involved in many of the projects Bituminous Roadways is working on. I like to get out on the job site and spend time with the crews, find out what they’re doing and learn more about our business. This relates well to my job as communications manager; I gather a lot of content! One project that is near and dear to my heart is the CSAH 30 Diffley roundabout project we paved. This section of roadway was reconstructed to improve pedestrian safety due to a tragic accident involving one of my son’s classmates. If what we do helps keep kids safe, I’m all in!

How did you get started in the construction industry?

In 2016, I was looking for a job closer to home and where I could use my marketing and communication skills. BR was looking for someone to manage and grow their marketing program. It was good timing for both parties.

Why is it important to celebrate women in construction?

Women have made great strides forward in many industries but especially in construction. It’s still a struggle so anything we can do to empower women and build them up is a step in the right direction.

How are you celebrating WIC week?

I am on the POWER committee for MBEX and we are hosting the Speed Mentoring event during WIC Week.
