Years in the industry?

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on?

Several years ago, a Construction Executive approached me with a problem – she had an entire project team that had been pulled from different areas of the country and had never worked together. They were working on a large, multi-year healthcare project and she was concerned about how long it would take to connect as a team. In response, I helped develop a program called “High Performing Teams.” It was a series of experiences for newly formed teams to learn to work more effectively together. Facilitating this program became a career highlight because I was able to see team members who didn’t know one another, or did only on a surface level, deeply connect with one another. This program made working together easier, the project perform better, and resulted in a happier client.

How did you get started in the construction industry?

One of my first jobs in HR was at an A&E firm. Years later when I was approached to join a construction company, I thought it was fitting to return to the AEC industry and focus on supporting the people who were doing the building. I’ve found it to be a fantastic place full of authentic people!

How are you celebrating Women in Construction Week?

I’m celebrating with two exciting opportunities; I will be facilitating the kick-off of a new women’s employee group at AP, and also teaching an open session on Unconscious Bias. This session will discuss how Unconscious Bias impacts each of us and how we can prevent it from affecting our decisions.
