Years in the industry?

20

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on?

I worked on the Downtown East projects for Ryan Companies (over by US Bank stadium). This incredible (and large) project team redeveloped are area that was surface lots into this vibrant area of businesses, condos, a parking ramp, and a gorgeous park. Every day walking to Ryan’s office, The Millwright, I walk by that park and think of all the hard work that went into those projects. That project is why I love construction, making a difference in the neighborhoods around us.

How did you get started in the construction industry?

My career started in construction insurance. One day on an insurance claim call, one of the superintendents told me about a school they were building. The smile and pride on his face were everything for me. He loved what he was doing. He was making a difference in this world. I went home that night and decided I wanted to have that joy with my job, so I switched my career to construction. 20 years later, I am still loving it.

How are you celebrating Women in Construction Week?

I am a part of NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction). We have over 13 free events we are planning. I plan on attending the mentoring event at Dunwoody; I will also be joining the Industry Showcase & Happy Hour on Wednesday. Ryan Companies will be hosting several events for their employees that I plan on attending. I also plan on over-sharing all of the excitement on social media! With only 11% of the construction workforce being women, this week is an excellent opportunity to talk about careers in construction and celebrate the amazing women in it.
