This year we’re thrilled to celebrate Women in Construction Week by showcasing the talented women who make up our organization and industry. Meet Michaela Sylvester, Project Engineer at Kraus-Anderson!
Years in the industry?
2
What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on?
Both North Loop Green and White Bear Lake Area High School (WBLAHS) take the title as my favorite project. These two projects are very different but both come with their own unique set of challenges that helped me grow as a construction professional. Both North Loop Green and WBLAHS are composed of great teams of subcontractors, architects, engineers, and owners. I have also had outstanding mentorship from my fellow Kraus-Anderson project managers and superintendents. It is so rewarding to see how excited both the Minneapolis and White Bear Lake communities are for these projects to be completed!
How did you get started in the construction industry?
In college at Minnesota State University, Mankato, I discovered the Construction Management program. I did not grow up in a construction family so classes were challenging at times, but in a good way, a challenge that I really enjoyed, and that is how I knew this was the right industry for me!
Why is it important to celebrate women in construction?
Women have been historically underrepresented in the industry and I want to encourage more women to enter this rewarding career field because representation matters.
How are you celebrating WIC week?
To celebrate, I will be participating in local WIC Week events and thanking the women who inspire and encourage me every day.
