This year we’re thrilled to celebrate Women in Construction Week by showcasing the talented women who make up our organization and industry. Meet Kim Bass, Carpenter Foreman at Veit & Companies!
Years in the industry?
30
What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on?
Definitely U.S. Bank Stadium, I am a die-hard Vikings fan, so I was very excited to be a part of building it. I was with Veit & Companies at the time as well.
How did you get started in the construction industry?
I was unable to find a full-time teaching job, so a good friend of mine, a woman in the carpenters union, asked if I would be interested in becoming a carpenter. I decided to try it and 30 years later I still enjoy what I do.
Why is it important to celebrate women in construction?
Because women in construction have come a long way. Back in the day, it wasn’t unusual that I was the only female carpenter with a company. Now, there are many women in the field and also in the office as project managers, estimators, etc. I think that is great and should be celebrated.
